call for expressions of interest

For PACMAT Medical Assistance Deployment in the Pacific (Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands, Niue)

The Pasifika Medical Association invites all interested Pacific clinicians and allied health professionals to complete an Expression of Interest Form to be considered to join the Pasifika Medical Assistance Team (PACMAT) for deployment in preparedness for a medical emergency response to Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands and the region during the Pacific cyclone season.

We seek expressions of interest particularly from Pacific doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in specialty areas of primary health care and mental health. All health professionals must be registered with a current New Zealand practicing certificate. Students and trainees are not eligible for deployment.

You must be willing and available to be deployed to the Pacific countries noted above within the Pacific cyclone period (30 Dec – 30 Apr).  It is desirable that you have relevant experience working within a Pacific context with Pacific communities or working within the Pacific region, a clear understanding of Pacific culture and can speak a Pacific language.

Please complete the PACMAT EOI Form and submit the relevant documents at your earliest convenience.

For all enquiries, please contact Melissa Fidow on melissa@pacifichealth.org.nz

*Please note that registration is NOT a guarantee of deployment.

PACMAT

Pasifika Medical Association Medical Assistance Team

PACMAT, or the Pasifika Medical Association Medical Assistance Team, is a multidisciplinary team of Pacific medical professionals ready and able to assist international medical institutions in the event of a sudden onset disaster or disease outbreak.

Our medical professionals are highly skilled and experienced in providing support in emergency response situations in the Pacific.  Our team of medical professionals includes experts from a range of disciplines: emergency medicine, primary care, paediatrics, surgery, anaesthetics, public health, and mental health.

What does PACMAT do?

PACMAT members are focused on providing additional human resources (a surge workforce) to support a local health system in the event of SOD or disease outbreak.

The key focus areas for PACMAT include primary health care clinicians, and mental health clinicians providing psychosocial support.  PACMAT will respond to request for assistance from within New Zealand and from the following Pacific Island countries: Cook Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu.
